FAQ
FAQ Red Light Therapy
What is red light therapy?
Red light therapy uses two or three wavelengths of red and infrared light to improve overall health and well-being. It does this by increasing energy production in the cell.
Why are two types of light used?
After more than 50 years of research and more than 50,000 studies, it has been shown that there are a number of wavelengths that have a therapeutic effect on the cell. These are from the red light spectrum: 630 nanometers and 660 nanometers. Of the infrared spectrum this is 850 nanometers.
What is the difference between red and infrared light?
The operation is the same, but the area of application is different. Infrared light penetrates the tissue, allowing it to exert its beneficial effects deeper in the body. Red light is actually effective on the skin.
How are the different wavelengths distributed?
All devices contain three different LEDs. These are divided into 25% 630 nanometers, 25% 660 nanometers and 50% 850 nanometers.
Is red light therapy comparable to an infrared sauna?
Although red light therapy and an infrared sauna both use infrared, the effect is not comparable. An infrared sauna uses longer wavelengths, creating a thermal effect. Red light therapy uses short wavelengths, causing a biochemical effect in the cell.
How do I get the best result?
It is important to stick to the recommended time frame. It is important to receive the light directly on the bare skin. Cream and make-up ensure that light reaches the skin less effectively.
Can I also switch the different LEDs separately?
Using two switches you can choose between red (630 nanometers / 660 nanometers) or infrared light (850 nanometers). This way you can choose what kind of treatment you want. Of course, the switches can also be turned on at the same time.
How do I know how long I should sit in front of the device?
When you order your red light therapy device you will receive our RLT manual. This states exactly which time window is best to use for a certain distance. This way you are guaranteed the best results.
What is the difference between the Medi 2.0 and the Maxi 2.0?
The only difference is the size and power that the devices have. This is indicated in ‘watts’. The Medi 2.0 has 300 watts and the Maxi 2.0 has 1000 watts.
Do I need to wear eye protection during treatment?
Although the light coming from the devices is quite bright, it is not necessary to wear eye protection. However, we advise not to look directly at the lamps from a short distance as this may be uncomfortable.
Is red light therapy also suitable for children?
Children are people too. The effect is therefore the same as in adults. Although there have been no studies involving children, we see no reason why it would be unsafe.
When is the best time to use red light therapy?
In nature, there is much more red and infrared light during sunrise and sunset compared to other wavelengths. We therefore recommend applying the treatments during these moments for the best results.
